Directed A SLEEP OF PRISONERS (Christopher Fry) at Malvern College Chapel, to launch the successful campaign to save Malvern Festival Theatre.

1964

Co-directed members of the Royal Shakespeare Company in pot-pourri of Shakespeare scenes, Moscow University, USSR.

1965 Manager, Guildhall of St George, King’s Lynn and Administrator, King’s Lynn Festival. Directed THE TYPISTS (Schisgal), THE MANDRAKE (Machiavelli) and NOYE’S FLUDDE (Britten).
1966-68 Associate Director, Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh. Founded and ran the Edinburgh Young Playgoers’ Club (membership approx 300). Directed THE CLANDESTINE MARRIAGE (Garrick & Colman), VOLPONE (Jonson), TOAD OF TOAD HALL (Milne) and STICKY DICK AND THE MARROWBONE JELLY MAN (White).
1971 Directed LITTLE MALCOLM (Halliwell) and MARIA MARTEN (Hall) at Ipswich Arts Theatre
1974-76

Associate Director, Derby Playhouse. Directed ROPE (Hamilton) and TIME AND TIME AGAIN (Ayckbourn).

1981

Joined the Drama Panel of Eastern Arts Association (until 1986).
Joined the Board of the Wells Centre, Norfolk (until 1986). Directed HUIS CLOS (Sartre) at Wells Centre Norfolk.

1984

Directed Sheila Reid and John Ashton in LOVE AMONG THE BUTTERFLIES (Fountaine/Burrell) at Cochrane Theatre London, on tour and at official Edinburgh Festival.

1986

Joined the Board of Tiebreak Touring Theatre Ltd as Company Secretary (till 2004).

1987 Directed Anna Barry in ANNIE WOBBLER (Wesker) for Canadian Tour.
Directed LOWER DEPTHS (Gorki) at Mountview Theatre School
Directed THE WEST INDIAN (Cumberland), ARTISTS AND ADMIRERS (Ostrovsky) and THE CHERRY ORCHARD (Chekov) at Webber Douglas Academy
 
1988 Directed RICHARD III and HENRY IV part 1 (Shakespeare) and MISALLIANCE (Shaw) at Mountview Theatre School
Directed Anna Barry in WOMAN ALONE (Dario Fo & Franca Rame) for Winnipeg and Edmonton Festivals, Canada.
 
1989 Directed MACBETH (Shakespeare), with a cast of one hundred, in Mauritius, for the British Council, sponsored by British Airways and Barclays Bank.
Directed Anna Barry in MY SISTER NEXT DOOR (Burrell) for Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Edmonton Festivals. Along with English Suitcase Theatre Company, Anna and I instigated the Saskatoon Fringe Festival at 25th Street Playhouse, now one of the largest theatre festivals in Canada. It won The Edmonton Journal Best Show Award at 1989 Edmonton Theatre Festival in Canada.
 
1990 Directed Anna Barry in ANNIE WOBBLER (Wesker) revival for Canada;  in the world premiere presentation of TALKING HEADS (Bennett) on stage, again in Canada, and in MY SISTER NEXT DOOR for a season at the Latchmere Theatre London.  
1991 Directed Anna Barry in two further TALKING HEADS (Alan Bennett) for Canadian tour.
Joined the Board of the King’s Lynn Festival and Arts Centre (Resigned 1995).
Joined the Board of the Angles Theatre (resigned 1995 and was appointed Director).
 
1992 Directed Anna Barry in the world premiere of WHOM DO I HAVE THE HONOUR OF ADDRESSING? (Peter Shaffer) for Canadian tour. 
Produced and directed GALA at Angles Theatre, Wisbech
Directed MY SISTER NEXT DOOR (Burrell) for five week run at Derby Playhouse.
 
1993 Directed WHOM DO I HAVE THE HONOUR OF ADDRESSING? (Peter Shaffer) for Orlando Theatre Festival USA and Bury St Edmunds Festival
Produced and directed GALA to mark 200th Anniversary of Angles Theatre, Wisbech.
 
1994 Directed Kate O’Mara in KISS AND TELL! for UK touring dates. 
Directed community play THE NARROW ESCAPE (Burrell) for the town of Soham. 
Directed Anna Barry in GIRLS AT PEACE (Burrell) and in Alan Bennett's Lady of Letters & A Woman of No Importance for Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Edmonton Festivals in Canada - click here for review.
Produced and directed GALA to mark 175th Anniversary of Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds.  Joined the Board of Theatre Royal (until 2001).
1995  Appointed Director of the Angles Theatre Wisbech
Directed MY SISTER NEXT DOOR for performances in Saudi Arabia. 
Directed community play KILLING NO MURDER (Burrell) to mark 350th anniversary of the Battle of Huntingdon - played 5 locations in Huntingdon.
 
1996 Directed MACBETH (Shakespeare) and A CHRISTMAS CAROL (Dickens/Burrell) at Angles Theatre Wisbech.
1997 Directed ROMEO AND JULIET (Shakespeare) and TREASURE ISLAND (Stevenson/Burrell) at Angles Theatre Wisbech.
1998 Joint Director, King’s Lynn Festival.  Elected Chairman, Wisbech Events Forum, responsible for community events in the town of Wisbech - still in post). Directed THE DAYS WE HAVE SEEN (Shakespeare/Burrell) at the King’s Lynn Festival. 
Directed MOTEL BETHLEHEM (Burrell) at Angles Theatre Wisbech.

1999 Directed community play LORD OF THE FENS (Burrell) at Hinchingbrooke House, to mark 400th anniversary of the birth of Cromwell. 
Directed TOM’S FRIENDS, a celebration of the life and work of the Victorian playwright T W Robertson, which starred Derek Jacobi, Anna Barry and Richard Clifford. 
Directed A THOUSAND YEARS OF WISBECH, featuring John Nettleton and Gillian Goodman,  to mark the completion of the town’s first millennium. 
Directed the musical ANNIE at Angles Theatre Wisbech.  Directed video excerpt of Shakespeare’s HENRY IV for Pennant Jones Productions.
2000 Directed BORROWING TIME (Burrell) for Right Angles Theatre Club, Angles Theatre Wisbech
Produced Gala Performance starring Jo Brand at the Isle College, Wisbech.  Produced rock and pop concert in Wisbech Park.
Selected by BBC Radio Cambridgeshire as one of their one hundred Men and Women of the Millennium for his contribution to the arts and community life in the county. 
2001 Resigned as Director of Angles Theatre.  Elected Vice Chairman of Natural High Experience Ltd, charity working with young people who are disadvantaged or at risk,  based in St Ives, Cambridgeshire.
Directed THE NIKKI BUTLIN SHOW at King’s Lynn Corn Exchange.  Produced rock and pop concert in Wisbech Park. 
2002

Directed WAY IN, WAY OUT (Burrell) at St Ivo Centre, St Ives.  Joint director on VOICES, a play by prison inmates, performed by members of the London Shakespeare Workout Prison Project in the Clore Studio, Royal Opera House. Regular member of the LSW Prison Project team, working with inmates at many prisons and Youth Offending Institutions. 
Produced  Wisbech’s Jubilee Event, a concert in the Market Place, commencing with flag-raising by the Lord Lieutenant assisted by local Army Cadets, with entertainment by dancing groups, several bands including the Temperance Seven, hosted by Steve Somers, and concluding with a superb firework display. Produced the now annual rock and pop concert in Wisbech Park and programmed/produced other community arts events. Appointed Honorary President, Peterhouse Heywood Society. 

2003

Worked with three groups of teenagers to produce five dramatic pieces which were then given rehearsed readings at the Play Room, Cambridge, as part of the Shell Connecting Voices project; worked with the Bowthorpe Writers Group producing a recital programme of their work in Wisbech and Cambridge; all of these projects being for the Arts Theatre, Cambridge.  
Directed PRIME TIME MURDER (Burrell) for tour by O.A.R.S.;  directed WITS END, a programme of pieces by the Algonquin Set (Dorothy Parker, Ogden Nash etc), starring Susan Flannery and Michael Lunts, for national and international touring;  later directed TEDDY TWINDLETAIL TALKS FOR ENGLAND (Strickland) for tour of Norfolk venues.  Appointed Arts Worker for Whittlesey and programmed the year’s community arts events for the town, as he continued to do for Wisbech, as Chairman of the Events Forum. 

 
2004

Produced interactive playlets on bullying and sexual harassment for Carrie Herbert Consultancy. Further work for Carrie Herbert Consultancy on racial intimidation and on disability.  Again working with Phoenix Writers from the Bowthorpe Centre, Wisbech on new writing and further public recitals. 
Directed FOUR SCORE YEARS - AND THEN!  a community show to celebrate 80th anniversary of Cambridgeshire ACRE, at Ramsey Rural Museum  and the Maltings, Ely. Resigned, after eighteen years, as Company Secretary of Tiebreak Theatre Company.

 
2005

Working for Carrie Herbert Consultancy.  Ran a series of three writing workshops for MIND in March, Cambridgeshire. 
Directed THE FEN TREASURE SURPRISE! (Burrell) for performances at Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds and the Angles Theatre, Wisbech.
Directed KINGS AND LIBERTIES (Burrell)  for performances in the Town Hall and the Commemoration Hall, Huntingdon as part of the celebrations to mark the 800th anniversary of the Town’s Charter. A scene from it welcomed Princess Anne on her visit to the town later in the year.

2008 Ran workshops for Huntingdon Drama Club, Needingworth Players and Cambridgeshire Mind.
